Vancouver Music Scene

Vancouver is a great place for entertainment. With a just a short walk down Granville Street you are met with an abundance of different types of entertainment options. Including; clubs, restaurants, bars, arcades etc. However, no one really thinks about all the live musicians that practice away for those bar gigs and how hard they are to come across.

Vancouver has an underground music scene lined with different assortments of bands. These bands practice like no tomorrow, print tickets, create facebook events, advertise and try their hardest to get people to their shows.

For a city that loves its music, the crowd at these shows are quite sparse. So why is the attendance at these shows so low? Where did all the music lovers go?

We should really support these artists and go enjoy a beer, learn some new songs and dance to their hard work.

The easiest way to find out about an upcoming show is Facebook.

Here are a couple upcoming shows in case you were interested in attending!

  1. Part of the reason you dont see many people at these shows is because no body goes out to party downtown before 10 oclock which is when many of these bands are on-stage. After that the stages are cleared to make way for the DJs. Not that there is anything wrong with giving DJs the floor, but it just seems wrong that there is a permanent system in place where live music is getting the shaft night in and night out.

  2. Davis brings up a good point. The fanbase for rock music has unfotunately seemingly dwindles in years passed. Compare it to the seventies where any band could fill a field with fans where nowadays a band can barely fill a bathroom stall to save their life. People will pay 6$ for a concoction of alcohol but struggle to pay 10$ to watch a band perform... Whatsup with that?

  3. People should keep an open mind when wandering about downtown, and should try to support local bands when ever they get the chance!

  4. Instead of playing instruments they should be playing my plump bagpipes.
