Does Make-up Matter?

Why do girls wear make-up?

A trend is circling the internet right now where girls take natural, no-makeup pictures of themselves. As these pictures circle around, it is easy to see that these girls are gorgeous with or without makeup. So why do girls insist on waking up extra early, spending excessive amounts of money and perfectly applying their make-up?

I feel asthough there is a constant pressure for girsl to look good. Whether it be the clothes they wear, the way they do their hair or their make-up. Is this influenced by magazines, models and celebrites, by boys and our peers, or actually to feel better about ourselves?

What's your opinion?

  1. I think its all about confidence. If it makes you feel better to wear it, then power to you. But I know what you mean. Its should be illegal to cake it on... haha

  2. I believe, as an outsider who does not wear make-up, that many females are too afraid to be themselves, and use make-up as a mask. I am surrounded by people in the arts on a daily basis, and when a camera comes onto their faces, something changes, and they instantly become self conscious. I believe that females, and males for that matter should spend more time starring at themselves and find more things that they love about themselves so they can cancel out the things they hate about themselves.

  3. Make up is completely unnecessary in my opinion. Girls do not need to be so insecure. I know it is basically human nature to fell that way, but the world is cruel. Be yourself, that's all you can do!

  4. I think everyone should only wear makeup if they really want to, and no one, NO ONE should ever feel pressure to wear makeup to make themselves feel more beautiful. In a perfect world.

  5. Did you know that moisturising cream is made out of foreskins?

  6. Makeup matters because a majority of women wear it. If Hollywood movies, magazines, advertisements, and all other visual representations of women were to stop standardizing unachievable female perfection, makeup wouldn't be necessary. The idealized woman is a social construct, and I think trends like these "all natural" pictures are a fantastic way to retaliate the unrealistic depictions we see in pop culture.
